List Building

"The Fortune is In the List". If you possess the knowledge of how to grow and profit from opt-in lists, you can pretty much write your own ticket.

There is a "System" to building your list.

You need to get people to your site so they can join your list and give you permission to begin mailing to them. It is absolutely necessary to put list-building at the top of your list of priorities. There is nothing you will do that is of More benefit to you than getting people to join your list.

Write this sentence on a post-it not and put it near your computer

"Everything I do must work towards list building."

Think about directing all your "Traffic" to your opt-in page as your primary course of action.

Don't promote your affiliate link until AFTER you've gotten them on a list!

Don't sign off your post at a forum with a link to a sales page. Point it to your opt-in page!

Don't buy advertisement to promote a product or a service or an offer - use ads to build your list!

The important thing is "everything you do must work towards building a list. You have to have that mindset as you are growing your business.

There are many ways to profit from your list while providing a valuable service to your list members. Being a list owner is so much more than just firing out offer after offer. Don't you get tired of people who get you on their list only to promote a new offer to you every single day? Not only will you do your subscribers a disservice, you will also harm yourself financially by ruining your reputation and running your list into the ground until it's no longer a viable asset for you.

If you have any experience in internet marketing, you’ll know that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of ways to market your business and advertise your products. There are traffic exchanges, ezines, safelists, adwords/PPC, article sites, press releases, video sites, blogging platforms, bookmarking sites, web2.0 networking sites, banner ads, text ads, and the list goes on.

Ultimately your best bet is to use as many different advertising mediums as you can throughout the week in order to generate as much traffic as you can to your capture pages. Remember our FOCUS here is to build your prospect lists, so always think of using capture pages in your ads.

Maintaining Your List and Consistency

So.. how did you get them on your list? Did you offer them a free report on generating free leads? Did you give away an ebook on how to make money selling software? Your Business/Program's capture pages?

Obviously if you said you’d tell them how to generate free leads, they won’t be too interested in finding out how to sell software would they? In order to maintain your list and ultimately keep people on your list, you need to provide them with information they asked for in the first place. And to keep them on your list you need to consistently provide them with similar information on an ongoing basis.

They need to know who you are and they need to know what to expect when they see your email in their inbox.

If you have a number of automated letters that are going out to your new list members, start sending out broadcasts after they’ve completed your automated letter sequence. At that point you can be a little more candid with your writing and be a little less ‘saleslike’.

Remember you want to keep people reading and hopefully buying what you’re selling.

Marketing to Your List

Marketing successfully to your list can sometimes be a little tricky. People can spot a sales pitch from a mile away. People don’t like to be sold things, BUT they sure like to buy!

People are on your list because you can provide them with information that can solve their problems. Simple as that. If they think you’re just selling them stuff over and over again, they’ll lose trust in you and leave. The real secret to getting staggering results from your email marketing is to make a difference in the lives of your list members by giving them something they can use.

A phrase I’ve used in the past to describe how this works is:

“Sell yourself, then recommend”

If you’ve sold yourself as someone that provides good information, people will start to trust your opinion. If they trust your opinion, they will take your recommendations seriously when you present them.

An example of this would be if you are selling an ebook that someone else wrote, as a trusted expert you can talk about the ebook, review it, and recommend it to your list members. Chances are if they trust you, they’ll check out the ebook, and if the price is right they’ll buy it from you.

Marketing to your list is an ongoing process that sometimes works, and sometimes doesn’t. But if you know your list, and you know what they want, your chances are much greater that you can make consistent sales all year long.

You know how important it is to FOCUS on the long-term aspect of making money online - building and marketing to your lists. Remember that as long as you FOCUS on continually finding new leads to add to your lists, you practically cannot lose no matter what you're advertising. The real "Gold Mine", is not in the list itself, but in the relationship you build with your list, through consistent contact and through valuable information that you provide to them. Companies may fail, Google may remove all your pages, and your ads may stop running, but you'll always have your list to generate income, and create downlines with.

Stay consistent with your list building. Use all the tools that are available to you. Before you know it, you'll be far ahead of those that don't follow the same path.

There are different ways to build your list. You can create your own eBooks, Courses, Newletters or Ezine, create your own Splash pages with a capture form, join listing building programs, or use your business/program's capture pages.

In my opinion, I feel that I would be building their list, not my own because I don't have the names, email addresses or telephone numbers of those who signed up under me.
